Navoi is
the largest province in Uzbekistan. It is larger than all provinces,
except the Republic of Karakalpakstan, The
province is located in the central part of the country. There are 8 rural
districts in the province - Konimekh, Kyzyltepa, Navbakhor, Navoi, Nurota,
Tomdi, Uchkuduk, and Khatirchi: 6 towns - Zarafsbon, Carmana, Kyzyltepa, Navoi,
Nurota, and Uchkuduk; 8 town-type-settlements - Ghazgon, Konimekh, Langar,
Malikrobot, Muruntau, Tinchlik, Shalkar, and Yangirabot.as well as 53 villages. City of Navoi is the administrative center of the
province (509 km away from Tashkent, population -120,600). Agriculture: cotton, grain crops, horticulture,
karakul sheep, farming, vegetables, and cocoon production. Industry: electricity, mining, construction
materials, gold mining. The Kyzyl
Kum Desert covers the northwestern part of the province. The Nurata
Mountain Ranges make up the eastern walls of the province while the Zarafshon
River crosses it in the south, The climate is continental. There are tungsten,
phosphorus, quartz, and limestone deposits in the province. Also, there is a
gold extraction industry next to the gold deposits. The major industries are electricity, chemical, cotton
processing industries, textile, food factories, and construction plants. The
major industrial enterprises are the Navoi Mining Metallurgical Plant, Navoi
Hydro Electricity Plant, "Navoiazot", "Elektrokhimiya" and
"Nurotamarmar" joint-stock companies. There is an Uzbek-American gold
mining joint venture, namely Zarafsbon-Newmont. Others include 60 state
industrial enterprises, 10 joint ventures, as well as 728 small and 30
cooperative enterprises. The
province produces more than 500,000 karakul pelts ranking second in karakul
pelt production in Uzbekistan, Bukhara being the first. There are
more than 2648 farmers in the province. The total length of the railroad
network is 390,7 km. The automobile roads make up more than 4,000 km, 3,300 km
of which is covered with asphalt. The Tashkent-Turkmenistan, Tashkent-Uchkuduk
railway lines cross the province. There are
362 schools in addition to lyceums, special sporting and music schools, as well
as branches of the Tashkent State Pedagogical University and the Tashkent State
Technical University. More than
120 clubs, 73 film studios, 291 libraries, 2 museums and 61 healthcare
establishments serve the public in the province. More than 2,000 doctors
and 8,000 medical personnel are responsible for the public health. Navoi is a
relatively young city in the Zarafshon Valley. It is a city in the middle of a
desert where new technologies are currently used to maintain an appropriate
living climate. There are many trees in the city, as well as shady squares and
fountains. In the
middle of the Kyzyl Kum Desert, atop the non-ferrous metal deposits, there are
two other contemporary cities, Zarafshon and Ucnkuduk. The water
pipelines bring water from the Amu Darya River to provide the city with water.
There are artificial lakes in Zarafshon and Navoi, used for recreational
purposes. |
